LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Jim Runestad on Tuesday urged Senate Democrats to take up legislation passed by the House last month that would roll back Michigan’s income tax rate from 4.25% to 4.05%.
“It might be Tax Day across the United States, but it’s past time for the Senate to get serious about relieving the tax burden on the hardworking people of Michigan,” said Runestad, R-White Lake. “For the past two years, Democrats have reached deeper into the pockets of Michiganders to fund their wasteful tax-and-spend corporate welfare priorities and special pork projects — including a $700 million income tax increase to balance their 2024-25 budget. Taxpayers cannot afford more bloated government. It’s time to permanently roll back Michigan’s income tax rate by passing House Bill 4170 in the Senate.”
